How To Tare A Balance
The picture to the left shows a balance from the general chemistry
laboratory. Although the balance in the picture is already at 0.000 g, often the balance is not reading zero at first or you want to weigh out a certain amount of material in a container. In these cases the zero point reading of the balance needs to be adjusted. This adjustment is known as "taring" the balance.
